Boys' Dormitory

From left, sitting on table: Craig Cutter, Dale Tice, Steve Williams, Charles "Turby" Turbeville, Freddie _?_;
standing: David _?_ and Tommy Richardson. Both Turby and Freddie are sticking their tongues out.
Remember these great swing!
Hard to believe how old little these boys were when they began their education at CID.

Guess who were the monkeys and who wasn't.

From left: Billy Land, ___?___, Dale Tice, Robert Gamewell, Steve Williams, and Gary Leonard.
The dormitory obviously lacked the "warm home atmosphere"; it was more of, oh well, an institution.
Did we grow up to be normal people?  Picture taken in May 1954.

Standing from left: ___?___, Steve Williams, ___?___, Dennis Bercovitz, Dale Tice, and Tommy Richardson.
Sitting from left: ___?___, Robert Gamewell, ___?___, and ___?___.
Forest Park was CID's big playground, a great place to play.
Picture taken in October 1955.

From left, standing: Donald _?_, Dennis Bercovitz, Tommy Richardson, Billy Land, Robert Gamewell, Steve Williams (behind John) and John Northington.
On ground: Scott Almdale and Gary Leonard.
Hey, watch out for flying snowballs!

Sitting from left: Gary Leonard, John Northington, Steve Williams, and Scott Almdale.
Standing: Robert Gamewell, Dennis Bercovitz, Tommy Richardson, and Dale Tice.
With these guns, we made sure that the park was a safe place to play.
Picture taken in January 1956.

The boys celebrate Steve's Birthday.  Note the cake with 10 (?) candles.
From left: John Northington, Dennis Bercovitz, Robert Gamewell, Steve Williams, Robie Scholefield, and Gary Leonard.
Steve got a Kodak Browning camera and had been taking pictures ever since.

From left: Billy Land, Tommy Richardson, Craig Cutter, Robie Scholefield,
Charles Tuberville, John Northington, Robert Gamewell, and Jerry Walsh.
Jerry was the strongest baseball hitter I've known at CID.
Picture taken by Steve Williams in December 1958.

Clockwise around Guy Winfield from top left: Charles Turbeville, Craig Cutter, Robert Gamewell,
John Northington, Robie Scholefield, Tommy Richardson, and Billy Land.
Guy Winfield was a training teacher from Ireland.  He lived in an apartment on the third floor
and was very involved in the boys' activities, including Boys Scout.  The boys really liked him.
Picture taken by Steve Williams in March 1959.

Steve Williams, Miss Hilton (housemother), and John Northington.
Miss Hilton was the meanest housemother I've ever had in my life.  And I had the misfortune to have
her as my housemother for FIVE years!  Two years of hell in the second boy's dormitory, and when
I thought I was finally free from her, I got stuck with her for another three years of hell in the fourth
boy's dormitory.  Life in the dormitory in these years were my worst and most miserable years at CID.
Picture taken in December 1958.

John Northington and Miss Hilton.
Eventually John moved out of the dormitory and lived with Don & Kay Nichols.
Picture taken in December 1958.

Robert Gamewell and Miss Hilton.
Did Robert like her?!?!?
Picture taken in December 1958.

Steve Williams.
How many more days till the end of the prison term, huh, I mean, school year?
I'm not sure but I think my shirt had numbers on the back.
Picture taken in December 1958.

Gary Leonard, Robert Gamewell, and Robie Scholefield.
Picture taken by Steve Williams.  With that Kodak Browning camera.

What's going on?  Robie has his his arm around a "charming little lady"?
Joe Roberts lies on ground and pulls his legs up; Robert Gamewell pulls his T-shirt over Joe's knees.
Picture taken in March 1959.

Robie tickles a "little charming lady" on the cheek.
Robie Scholefield, Robert Gamewell, and Joe Roberts.
Picture taken in March 1959.

Tommy Richardson on the roof after a Boy Scout camping trip.

Tommy Richardson as a catcher.  He was really a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Craig Cutter.  Another baseball fanatic.

Lewis Moehlman.  Another baseball fanatic.
I guess we all were baseball fanatics because we played baseball nearly everyday after school.
We had enough boys to form two teams, and the Forest Park was a great place to play baseball.

Three baseball fanatics.
Tommy Richardson, Charles Turbeville, and Craig Cutter.
