Special Announcement – SJI

April 28, 2014

As you may have already heard, St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf (SJI) has announced they are closing their school program this May. They will maintain their Early Intervention and IHear programs as well as their toddler class.

As the CIDAA Representative on the CID Board of Directors, I wanted to tell you our board discussed St. Joseph’s plans and how they might impact CID. CID will accept additional children into the school as long as there is an appropriate class placement for them. CID has already committed to adding one additional teacher to its staff next fall. Several children from SJI will attend summer school this summer at CID, and some will likely remain and attend school here in the fall.

The board and CID Leadership Team are aware that this is a challenging time for our friends at SJI, and they have offered to ease the transition for their parents as much as possible.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
